Common Issues that Occur in Hydraulic Products within Trucks

Trucks and heavy equipment with hydraulic products need them to work properly for smooth operation. An issue with the hydraulics can result in the machine (tipper, crane, etc.) or its tasks failing.

In this post, we will talk about the most common problems emerging in truck hydraulic products and how they affect the outcome in different situations. We will also provide some tips and solutions for these issues.

Simple Solutions to Issues Taking Place in Truck Hydraulic Products

These tips will prove helpful for the frequently-occurring problems we’ve discussed below:

  1. Seepage of Hydraulic Fluid

When you notice hydraulic fluid leaking, inspect the components of the hydraulic system while it operates. In case you can’t notice anything apparent take a look at the surface of the hoses.

They may have some imperfections if the wire reinforcement suffers corrosion because of a broken hose cover. Unlike in the case of volumetric mixer parts, this results in oil leakage, a situation commonly arising from exposure of hoses to road salt spray.

  1. Stuck Tipper Body

In case the tipper refuses to move, it may be due to one or more of the following:

      Low hydraulic fluid

      Excessive load

      Broken pump

      DC power supply

      Damaged electric motor

      Lack of power supply

You can overcome this issue with the help of these tips-

Wash/clean the suction strainer in the tank, assuming you have one. If you do, it may have gotten blocked and be reducing the effectiveness of the pump. Make sure you clean from the inside and the outside for smooth oil flow.

Increase the amount of hydraulic fluid after you confirm a leak and a lower fluid level than is necessary for proper function. Once you have checked to ensure there aren’t additional noticeable issues with the involved hydraulic products, park the vehicle on the flat and fill up at least half the hydraulic tank with the oil specified by the manufacturer.

Make sure there isn’t any trapped air in the fluid as it can lead to hydraulic system issues. You can do this by opening the relief valves to bleed air from the system.

  1. Slow and Sluggish Hydraulic Products

Certain factors can cause a negative impact on lifting power, such as DC power supply and loose battery cables among other things. The tipper may also be facing mechanical or pressure problems- or there may be too much load on it.

In such cases, the battery is likely to be the main reason behind operation failure, so try charging it first. This tip is applicable for mixers with volumetric mixer parts and sandblasting services products as well. If this doesn’t work, the battery may be failing, so change it as soon as you can. Otherwise, the weak battery can result in fuse blowouts, resulting in further problems.

Check the following before you change the battery of your vehicle or equipment:

      Examine the battery’s overall state

Check the functioning of the inline fuse

Ensure the electrical links to the battery are in proper working order.

If the system is powered by the engine, the pump might be the culprit behind this issue. In this case, the pump and truck transmission are working but the tipper seems to be moving slowly. Commonly suspected reasons include:

Pumps get worn and weakened over time, making them more likely to leak internally. You can check for such damage by testing the pump pressure.

The pump inlet may have an obstructed inlet filter or a compromised inlet hose. Common indicators include loud, screeching pump sounds and rapidly rising temperature.

In Conclusion

For most of these conditions, you will also have to keep an eye on the relief valve pressure as it may be on the borderline depending on the load. Keep checking if the relief valve needs release from time to time and when it does, ensure the pressure setting remains according to the guidelines set by the machine manufacturer.
